Certifications & Accreditations

Littell Steel maintains rigorous certifications and quality systems that meet the highest national standards for structural and bridge fabrication.

AISC Certifications

  • AISC Certified Fabricator – Building
  • AISC Certified Fabricator – “Intermediate” Bridge
  • Fracture Critical Endorsement (FCE)
  • Sophisticated Paint Endorsement (SPE)

All certifications are maintained through annual AISC audits and ongoing compliance with AISC Quality Certification requirements.

Welding & Code Compliance

  • AWS D1.1 – Structural Welding Code (Buildings)
  • AWS D1.5 – Bridge Welding Code

Our welding procedures, welder qualifications, and inspection protocols are governed by these standards for both building and bridge projects.

Quality & Traceability

  • Full Mill Test Report (MTR) traceability
  • Certified Non-Destructive Examination (NDE)
  • AISC-compliant Quality Management System
  • Fracture-critical documentation controls

Why It Matters

These certifications allow Littell Steel to bid and perform work where owners, engineers, and DOTs require certified fabrication, documented traceability, and verified quality control.

Bridge Deck Waterproofing (Shop-Applied Option)

Littell Steel offers shop-applied spray-on deck waterproofing as an added capability for bridge projects—an option that extends beyond standard fabrication and coating requirements.

What It Is

A high-build, spray-applied waterproofing membrane designed specifically for bridge deck protection. This system is distinct from traditional zinc/epoxy/urethane coatings and is engineered to resist:

  • Water intrusion
  • De-icing chemicals
  • Long-term wear from traffic and vibration

Typical systems include Sterling deck waterproofing, applied directly to deck plates and related surfaces.

How It Differs from Standard Coatings

  • Not part of the standard paint system
  • Applied at significantly greater thickness
  • Designed for deck performance, not just corrosion protection
  • Functions as a protective barrier layer, not simply a coating

Industry Standard vs. Littell’s Approach

Typical Specification
Bridge deck waterproofing is usually applied in the field by the contractor after erection.

Littell Approach
We offer to apply waterproofing in our shop during fabrication, under controlled conditions.
